ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Governor (device)

A governor is like a big helper that makes sure a machine always runs at the right speed. Imagine you are playing with a toy car and you can make it go fast or slow by pushing it with your hand. A governor is like a little person inside the car that watches how fast you are making it go and makes sure it stays at the right speed.

Governors are often used in big machines like engines or turbines that create energy by spinning really fast. If these machines spin too fast or too slow, they can get damaged or stop working altogether. But with a governor, the machine always runs at the perfect speed so it can do its job correctly without getting broken.

Governors work by using something called a feedback loop. This means they send out a signal to measure how fast the machine is spinning, and then use that information to adjust the speed. If the machine is spinning too fast, the governor will slow it down. If it's spinning too slow, the governor will speed it up. This way the machine always stays at the right speed for the job it needs to do.

So that's what a governor is: a helper that makes sure machines run smoothly and don't get hurt.
