ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Graded category

Imagine you have a bunch of toys, and you want to organize them in groups based on how big they are. You start by putting the smallest toys in one group, then the slightly bigger ones in another group, and so on, until you have a group for each size. This is what we call categorizing or putting things into categories.

Now, let's say you want to add another group for toys that are in between two of the existing groups, like toys that are bigger than the small toys but smaller than the medium ones. This is where graded categories come in.

A graded category is like a regular category, but instead of having distinct groups, it has a range of values or sizes that belong to different levels or grades. Each level is a little bit bigger or smaller than the previous one.

For example, let's say you have a graded category for the size of toys, and the levels are: mini, small, medium, large, and jumbo. The mini toys are the smallest, the jumbo toys are the biggest, and the other levels are in between. A toy that is slightly bigger than the small toys but not quite medium would belong in the "small+" level, which is a graded level that falls between the small and medium levels.

So, to sum it up, a graded category is a way of organizing things into levels or grades based on their size, value, or other characteristics, where each level is a little bit bigger or smaller than the previous one, and there may be additional levels that fall between the main ones.
