Gravity feed

Gravity feed is when something falls down because of gravity pulling it towards the ground. This happens because everything that has mass, or weight, has gravity. So when something is heavier, like a big rock, it has more gravity than something lighter, like a feather.

In a gravity feed system, things like liquids or granular materials, can be moved or transported just by letting them fall or flow down from a higher place to a lower place, without using any pumps or machines to push them along. For example, your kitchen sink might have a garbage disposal chute that uses gravity feed to take food waste down into the garbage disposal unit. When you turn on the faucet, water flows down from the higher faucet into the sink, driven by gravity.

Another popular example is a bird feeder. You fill it up and stick it on a bird post, and the seeds inside are able to slide down as birds peck at them. Gravity is the natural force that causes things to fall down, and that force is what moves things along in a gravity feed system. So whenever you see something moving all by itself from a higher place to a lower place, you’re probably witnessing gravity feed in action!
