ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Greek-Calabrian dialect

Okay kiddo, so you know how people from different places can speak a little differently, right? Like how some people say "pop" and some people say "soda" for a fizzy drink? Well, the Greek-Calabrian dialect is a way of speaking that some people in Italy use.

Now, a long time ago, a lot of Greeks moved to what's now Italy, and they brought their language with them. Over time, the way they spoke changed a bit, as it often does when a group of people live somewhere new for a while. But even though the way they spoke changed, they still used a lot of Greek words and phrases mixed in.

So when we talk about the Greek-Calabrian dialect, we're talking about the way some people in Calabria, a region in southern Italy, speak. They use a lot of Greek words and phrases in their everyday conversations, along with some Italian words too.

It might seem a little confusing, but it's actually really interesting to learn about how languages can change over time and how people's way of speaking can be influenced by where they live and who they've been around.
