Griko language is a special way of speaking that some people in southern Italy use. It's kind of like their own secret code that they use to talk to each other.
You know how sometimes you have a special way of talking with your friends that no one else really understands? That's kind of what Griko language is like.
The people who speak Griko live in an area called Salento, which is at the bottom of Italy's heel. A long time ago, when the Greeks were in charge of that area, they left their language there. As a result, over time the people who lived there started to mix the Greek language with their own Italian language.
Nowadays, not a lot of people speak Griko because most people use regular Italian. But the people who do speak it are really proud of their language and they work hard to keep it alive. They have special festivals and events where they get together and speak Griko, so they can keep the language going for the next generation.
