Grizzly 399 is the name of a famous grizzly bear (a type of big brown bear) who lives in Grand Teton National Park, in the US state of Wyoming. She was born in the year 1999 and was first seen by people in March 2001. Grizzly 399 is a very special bear who has been watched closely by scientists and conservationists over the years. She is called Grizzly 399 because she was the 399th grizzly bear to be identified in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem! She's very famous because she's been featured in magazines, newspapers, and books, plus she even had her own documentary made about her life. Grizzlies generally like to stay away from people and live in more isolated places, and surprisingly, Grizzly 399 is one of the few bears who does not do this - she is frequently seen near highways and camping and picnic grounds in the park. She is often seen playing with her cubs, and visitors are encouraged to view her from a distance and admire her beauty.
