ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gross National Well-being

Gross National Well-being (GNW) means how happy and content people are in a country. It's like measuring how good life is for everyone in a country, not just looking at how much money they have.

It's like when you and your friends play games and you all have fun, but no one wins a prize. You still feel good and happy because you had fun, right? That's what GNW is checking, if everyone is feeling good and happy overall.

To measure GNW, people are asked questions like, "Do you feel safe in your community? Do you have enough food to eat? Do you have clean air and water? Do you feel connected to your community and have good relationships with other people?" All these questions help to figure out how happy and content people are in a country.

This helps governments to know what is important to people, and how to make sure everyone is as happy and content as possible. It's important to remember that even if someone has a lot of money, they might not be happy if they don't have good relationships, feel unsafe, or have other problems. GNW helps to measure how good life is for everyone in a country, not just those who are rich.
