Imagine building a sandcastle at the beach. You dig a hole in the sand and scoop out some sand to make space for a tower. Now imagine you want to make sure no water comes into the hole or the tower that you built. To do this, you create a wall made of wet sand around the hole and the tower. This wall helps keep the water out and prevents the hole and the tower from collapsing.
A grout curtain is a similar idea, except it is used to prevent water from entering a tunnel or dam. When building a tunnel or a dam, engineers may need to go through an area with water or soil that is not strong enough to support the structure or could cause it to collapse. To prevent this, they inject a liquid mixture called grout into the ground to create a barrier or wall around the tunnel or dam. This grout wall, or curtain, helps keep the water or weak soil from entering the structure and causing any problems. It is essentially like building a barrier around your sandcastle to keep the water out and everything sturdy and safe.
