The gustatory system is the system in your body that lets you taste things. It includes your tongue, your mouth, your nose, and even your brain! Your tongue has special cells on it called taste buds. These taste buds work like tiny sensors, and help you to figure out how something tastes. They pick up four main kinds of tastes: sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. Your nose is also important for tasting things. When you smell something, it helps you to understand what kind of taste it is. Your brain takes all the information from the taste buds and your nose, and puts it all together to help you understand what food you're tasting.
