The gut–brain axis is like a two-way street. It is like our brain is talking to our gut, and our gut is talking to our brain. It helps our gut and brain do things together to keep us healthy. Our gut helps send signals to our brain, and our brain helps send signals to our gut. For example, the gut can tell the brain when you’re hungry and the brain can tell the gut to start making food to eat. They also work together to help us fight off bad things like germs and sickness.
