Hanged, drawn and quartered

Okay, so a really long time ago, there were some people called kings and queens who ruled over different parts of the world. Sometimes, if people did something really bad, the kings and queens would punish them in a really horrible way called "hanged, drawn and quartered".

First, the person who did something wrong would be tied up really tight and put on a wooden plank or platform. Then, they would be pulled up in the air by a rope around their neck, which would squeeze their throat and make it hard for them to breathe. This was the hanged part.

After that, they would be cut open with a knife, and all their organs and insides would be taken out. This was the drawn part.

And finally, their body would be cut into four pieces, so that their head, arms and legs were all separate. This was the quartered part.

It was a really cruel and painful way to punish people, and they only did it to people who had done really bad things like trying to harm or kill the king or queen. Nowadays, we do not use this method of punishment anymore, and people are given fair trials and reasonable punishments.
