ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Harm reduction

Harm reduction is a way of thinking and doing things that try to keep people safe, even if they are doing something that is risky or unhealthy. It’s like having a plan in place to make sure that if something bad happens, it won’t be as bad as it could be. For example, if you know someone who drinks too much alcohol, you can use harm reduction techniques to make sure they stay safe while they are drinking, like keeping track of how much they’re drinking and making sure they have food and a safe place to stay.
