ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hawser

A hawser is a big, strong rope that is used to tie up or pull big boats or ships. It's like a really thick and long piece of string made out of very strong fibers or materials like nylon, polyester, or steel. Just like how you would tie your shoes, a hawser is used to secure a boat to a dock or to another boat. But because boats are really big and heavy, the hawser has to be even stronger so it can hold the weight of the boat safely. Think of it like tying up a giant balloon with a big, strong rubber band. That's what a hawser does for a boat!
