ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Health information exchange

Health information exchange (HIE) is a way for doctors and other healthcare providers to share important information about your health. They use special computers and electronic systems that allow them to quickly get the information they need to give you the best care. For example, when you go to your family doctor, they can quickly look up test results or see what kind of medication and treatments you have had in the past. This way they can make sure you get the right care right away. HIE helps keep everyone in the healthcare system on the same page and gives you the best possible care.
