Heliotropism

Okay kiddo, today we're going to talk about something called heliotropism! Heliotropism is a big word that means "something that moves or grows towards the sun." Do you ever see a flower or plant leaning towards the sun in the garden? That's heliotropism in action!

You see, plants need sunlight to make food through a process called photosynthesis, which helps them grow big and strong. So, when plants are outside, they want to soak up as much sunlight as they can! That's why they move in the direction of the sun to maximize the amount of sunlight they can get.

And it's not just plants that can show heliotropism, some animals can do it too! For example, did you know that sunflowers follow the movement of the sun across the sky from east to west? This is called solar tracking, which is a type of heliotropism!

So, when you see a plant or a flower moving towards the sun or changing positions throughout the day to follow the sun, that's heliotropism in action! It's just one of the many amazing things that nature can do!
