Imagine you really like flowers and plants. You want to keep them forever, but you can't just put them in a vase because they will eventually dry up and get all crumbly. Instead, you can create something called a herbarium!
A herbarium is like a book that has a lot of pages where you can put different kinds of plants. But it's not just any book, it's a special one that's made to protect and preserve the plants.
So, when you find a nice flower or plant that you want in your herbarium, you have to press it first. This means you gently flatten it so that it's not all puffy and round anymore. Then you put it in the herbarium book, on a blank page.
Before you put the plant in the herbarium book, you need to label it so that you'll remember what kind of plant it is. You write the name of the plant, the date you found it, and where you found it. This is important because if you don't remember what the plant is or where you found it, your herbarium won't be very useful.
Now, whenever you want to look at your plants or show them to someone, you can open up your herbarium book and see all the different kinds of plants you've collected. And because the book protects the plants, they won't get all crumbly or fall apart like they would if you just left them lying around.
