ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

HiRISE

HiRISE is a fancy camera that takes pictures of Mars from a really, really long way away. It's like taking a super zoomed-in picture of Mars from here on Earth, but way, way better.

It's up in a big spaceship called the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) and it's always taking pictures of Mars as it spins around. The camera is so good that it can see things on the surface of Mars that are only about 1 meter wide.

Scientists use these pictures to learn more about Mars and try to figure out things like whether there is or ever was water on Mars, and where would be good places to land future spaceships on Mars. It's like a big spy camera in space, but for science!
