ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hierarchical classifier

A hierarchical classifier is a way of organizing or classifying things. Imagine that you want to group all types of animals. To do this, you would create a hierarchy (or a family tree) which is made of up different levels. For example, your hierarchy may have the highest level being "animals" and then the first level underneath might be "mammals", then "birds", and then "insects". Each of these levels has further types of animals underneath them. For example, the second level beneath "mammals" might be "cats", "dogs", and "bears". By sorting things into a hierarchy, it is easier to find the type of animal you are looking for.
