ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hiss (electromagnetic)

Alright kiddo, let's talk about hiss or electromagnetic interference. Imagine you have a bunch of toys in your room and you want to play with one toy, but you hear some noise from another toy. This noise can be like hissing or static on the TV. This is kind of like what happens when there are wires or electrical things close to each other.

When electricity flows through wires or cables, some of it can escape and go to other wires that are close by. This can cause extra electricity to flow in those other wires, and that can make some noise or disturbance. Just like when you play loud music on a speaker and it causes the pictures on the wall to shake.

This interference or hiss can happen with electronic devices, like phones or computers or radios, when there are other electronic things nearby. This can make it hard to hear or communicate clearly on the phone or watch a show on the TV.

Engineers and scientists work hard to make sure that devices don't interfere with each other. They use different materials and designs to make sure that the electricity stays in the right places and doesn't cause any noise or disruption.
