ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hisshi

Hisshi is a Japanese word that means "certain death." It is a situation where you're faced with a choice between two options, and no matter what you choose, the outcome is going to be very bad.

Imagine you're playing a game of tag with your friends, and you're running away from the person who's "it." You can either keep running in the direction you're going, or you can turn around and run the other way. If you keep running straight, you're going to run into a wall and hurt yourself. If you turn around and run the other way, the person who's "it" is going to catch you.

That's an example of a hisshi situation. No matter what you choose, the outcome is bad.

So, when people say something is hisshi, they mean that it's a situation where there's no good option and you're going to suffer no matter what. It's a very serious word and should be used carefully.
