Histamine N-methyltransferase

Histamine N-methyltransferase (HNMT) is like a traffic cop in your body. Whenever you eat something or come in contact with something that your body doesn't like, like pollen or dust, your body releases a chemical called histamine. Histamine tells your body to protect itself, but can also cause things like sneezing, itching, and redness.

HNMT is like a superhero enzyme in your body. It helps stop the effects of histamine by changing it into a new chemical called methylhistamine. Think of it like turning a red light into a green light. Methylhistamine doesn't tell your body to protect itself, so it doesn't cause the same kinds of problems like itchiness or sneezing.

So, if your body has enough HNMT, it can keep histamine under control and keep you feeling good. Without it, your body might have trouble regulating the effects of histamine and cause unpleasant side effects.
