ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Historical geographic information system

A Historical Geographic Information System (HGIS) is like a map with dates! It allows us to see how places and things have changed over time. For example, if you wanted to look at how the borders between countries have changed over the years, you could use an HGIS. Or if you wanted to know how many people lived in an area in the 1800s, you could use an HGIS to find out. HGIS is like a time machine for maps! It helps us learn about how the world used to be and how it has changed.
