Okay kiddo, so you know how there are black people in America, right? Well, there are also black people in Canada! And some of those black people have played football in a league called the Canadian Football League, or CFL for short.
But it hasn't always been easy for black people to play football in the CFL. A long time ago, back in the 1950s, there were rules in Canada that said only white people could play professional football. Can you believe that?
But some brave black football players didn't let that stop them. They wanted to play football and they wanted to show that they were just as good as anyone else. So they started playing in a different league, called the United Football League, which let black people play.
Eventually, attitudes started to change and the CFL started letting black people play too. In fact, some of the best players in the CFL have been black! One of the most famous black CFL players was a man named Warren Moon. He played quarterback, which is a really important position on the football team. He was so good that he even got to play in the National Football League in America!
Today, the CFL is a much more diverse place. Lots of different kinds of people play football in the CFL, and everyone is welcome to play as long as they have the skills to do it. So, even though there were some bumps along the way, the history of African Americans in the Canadian Football League is a story of determination, bravery, and breaking down barriers.
