History of Casablanca

Casablanca is a city in a place called Morocco, which is in Africa. A long time ago, before people had cars or even airplanes, a group of people called Berbers started living in the area where Casablanca is now. They were mostly farmers and they grew things like wheat and olives.

Later, around the 12th century, another group of people called the Almohads took over the area. They were Muslim and they built a really big mosque (a special type of building where Muslims go to pray) in what is now the city center.

A few centuries later, in the early 20th century, the French took over Morocco as a colony. They wanted to make Casablanca a modern city, so they built a lot of new buildings like big offices and hotels. They also made a big port so that ships could come and go easily. Many people from all over Morocco came to Casablanca to work in these new places, and the city became one of the biggest in the country.

During World War II, Casablanca became a really important place because it was a big port where ships could come to bring supplies for the soldiers fighting the war. In fact, there was even a very famous movie called “Casablanca” that was made in Hollywood in 1942, and it was set in the city during the war.

After the war was over, Morocco became independent from France in 1956. Since then, Casablanca has continued to grow and change. Today, it is a bustling city with lots of people, traffic, and things to do. People from all over the world come to visit and see what makes Casablanca special.
