History of Hong Kong

Okay, so imagine there's a big city called Hong Kong. A long, long time ago, it was just a little fishing village where people caught fish to sell and trade.

Then, a bunch of different countries wanted to take over Hong Kong because it was a really cool city with a big harbor and lots of trade. So, for a while, different countries like Britain and Japan controlled Hong Kong and made the people there follow their rules.

But eventually, in 1997, China - which is a really big country right next to Hong Kong - took over and Hong Kong became a part of China. However, they have a special agreement called "One Country, Two Systems" which means that Hong Kong has its own government and rules that are different from China's rules.

So now, the people of Hong Kong are kind of like their own little team with their own rules, but they still are a part of China.
