Poland is a country in Europe that has a long and interesting history. During World War II (1939-1945), Poland was invaded by Nazi Germany, which had an army from Germany led by Adolf Hitler. This army occupied all of Poland. The Polish people were forced to live under Nazi rule and suffered oppression, genocide, and mass murder at the hands of the Nazis. The Nazis also destroyed much of the country's infrastructure, economy, and culture. At the end of the war, in 1945, the Nazis were defeated and Poland was liberated and regained its independence. Today, Poland is an independent, democratic nation and is a member of the European Union.
