In order to make soap you'll need some common kitchen supplies, including some kind of pot or large bowl, a cooking thermometer, a spoon and a mold for the soap.
1. First, mix together two cups of your favorite oil (coconut oil or olive oil work best) with six cups of boiling water in a pot or large bowl.
2. Second, slowly add 8 ounces (about 1 cup) of a type of lye or sodium hydroxide into the mixture while stirring continuously. Be very careful not to touch the mixture or get the lye in your eyes or on your skin.
3. After that, continue stirring while keeping your thermometer in the mixture. When the mixture reaches 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit, take it off the heat and strain the mixture into a new container or pot.
4. Finally, add in any additives you'd like, such as fragrances, colors, herbs, etc and pour the soap mixture into molds. Allow the soap to cool for at least a few hours or overnight and then enjoy your homemade soap!
