History of Rajasthan

Long, long ago, a very long time before you or your grandparents were born, there were different kingdoms in a big area in the North-Western part of India. These different kingdoms were called Rajputs. They were very brave and fought many wars and battles to protect their land and people. The Rajputs were very proud of their traditions and culture.

One of the most famous Rajput kingdoms was Rajasthan. Rajasthan means ‘Land of Kings’. It was called that because there were many kings ruling this place.

In the early days, the people of Rajasthan were hunters and farmers. They used to live in small villages and were very simple people. But the Rajputs changed everything.

The Rajputs brought a lot of wealth, culture, and pride to Rajasthan. They built magnificent palaces, forts, and temples. They also encouraged art and crafts like pottery, weaving, and painting. They also organized fairs and festivals, which attracted traders and merchants from different parts of India and abroad.

In the 16th century, the Mughal Empire took over Rajasthan. The Mughals were known for their architectural skills, and they added to the richness of Rajasthan. They built many beautiful buildings and monuments, such as the famous Amber Fort, the City Palace in Jaipur, and the Hawa Mahal.

In the 18th century, the Marathas and later the British took over Rajasthan. The British brought in their ways of living, and introduced new technology and ways of governing people. They also brought in their language, English.

After India became independent in 1947, Rajasthan became one of the states of India. Today, Rajasthan is a vibrant state with a rich history, culture, and heritage. It has many tourist attractions and is famous for its desert, forts, and palaces. The people of Rajasthan are very proud of their culture and traditions, and they celebrate festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Teej with great joy and enthusiasm.
