History of journalism in the United Kingdom

Journalism is when people write stories and report on what is happening in the world. In the United Kingdom, people have been doing journalism for a very long time, since the early 17th century.

At first, there were only a few newspapers and they were very expensive, so not many people could read them. They were also censored by the government, which means the government would decide what could be published in the newspapers.

As time went on, more and more people were able to read and the newspapers became less expensive. This meant that more people had access to news and could make up their own minds about what was going on. However, the government still had some control over what was published, so not everything was always reported on.

During the 19th century, many different types of newspapers began to appear, catering to different political views and social classes. This gave readers more choices and ensured that different parts of society were being represented.

In the 20th century, the advent of radio and television changed the way people got their news. Newspapers were still popular, but they had to compete with these other forms of media. As a result, newspapers had to become more sensational and eye-catching in order to keep people interested.

Today, there are countless news outlets in the UK, ranging from traditional newspapers to online-only publications. Journalists are still an important part of society, as they help people stay informed about what is happening in the world. They work hard to report the facts and keep us all up-to-date, so we can make informed decisions.
