History of orienteering

Orienteering is a game where people try to find their way through the woods using a map and a compass. It's like a big treasure hunt with no treasure!

This game started a long time ago in Scandinavia, a place with lots of forests and mountains. People who lived there needed to be able to find their way through the woods so they wouldn't get lost. Orienteering was a fun way to practice those skills.

In the 1800s, some people in Scandinavia decided to make a sport out of it. They started having competitions and races where people had to find their way through the woods as fast as they could. The winner was the person who got to the finish line first.

Over time, orienteering became more popular in other countries too. Today, people all over the world enjoy playing this game. It's a great way to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and have fun with friends!
