History of wikis

A wiki is a type of website that allows anyone to add, remove, or change information in the website. It is called a "wiki" because the word itself means "quick" in the Hawaiian language. Wiki websites have been around since 1995 when the first one was launched. It was called WikiWikiWeb, and it was created by Ward Cunningham, an American computer programmer. WikiWikiWeb was used to discuss software development topics.

Since then, many other wikis have been created. They are used for many things, like writing books, learning languages, and teaching classes. Most wikis have a basic way of organizing information. They also allow anyone to edit information without needing any special skills. By making it easy to add and change information, wikis make it easy for people to collaborate.

Wikis have become very popular and are now used in many different places. Schools, businesses, and governments use wikis to make sure everyone has access to the most current information. Wikis make it easier for people to share information and work together on projects.
