Hittite cuneiform

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of writing? Well, a long, long time ago, people didn't have computers or even pens and paper. They used something else to write their thoughts and stories, and that was called cuneiform.

The Hittites were a group of people who lived a really, really long time ago in what is now modern-day Turkey. They used cuneiform to write things down. They didn't use letters like we do today, but instead, they used pictures that stood for different words. These pictures were pressed into clay tablets using a stick with a pointy end.

So, why did the Hittites use cuneiform? It's because they wanted to keep a record of important things like laws, treaties, and even recipes! They needed to be able to communicate with each other in a way that they all understood.

To read these clay tablets, you had to be very clever. You would need to know what each picture stood for, and then read them in the right order. The Hittites would sometimes use over 1,000 different pictures to communicate!

Nowadays, we don't use cuneiform anymore, but it's really important because it's taught us so much about the Hittite civilization and their way of life.
