Holdout (sports)

Imagine you and your friend are playing a game on a nice sunny day outside. You both have a ball and you're trying to score points by throwing the ball into a goal. But you want to make sure that you win the game and show your friend how good you are at the game.

So you decide to do something called a holdout. This means that you're going to keep a special trick up your sleeve that you won't use until the end of the game, when it really counts. You're not going to show your friend this trick until the very last moment.

The same thing happens in sports, like football or basketball. Coaches might hold back a special play or strategy until the very end of the game, when it's the most important. They don't want the other team to know about this special play, so they keep it a secret until the very last moment.

This holdout strategy can be very powerful because it catches the other team off guard and gives you a better chance of winning the game. So next time you're playing a game, remember that sometimes it's a good idea to keep a special trick up your sleeve until you really need it.
