A period is when a girl or woman bleeds from their vagina once a month. This usually starts happening when a girl gets to be around 11-15 years old. All people with uteruses who are not pregnant will have a period. It is a sign that the body is working normally and a way for the body to get rid of the lining of the uterus that it does not need anymore.
