ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Holophones

Holophones are words that sound the same as other words but have different meanings. It's like when you say "see" and "sea". They are pronounced the same way, but they mean different things. In other words, holophones are homophonic words that have different spellings and meanings.

For example, the word "bare" (which means naked) is a homophone of "bear" (which is a furry animal). Another example is "right" (which means correct) and "write" (which means to make words on a paper or computer).

Holophones can be tricky because if you don't pay close attention, you might accidentally use the wrong word and say something completely different from what you intended. So, it's important to always double-check and use the right spelling and context when using holophones.
