ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hong Kong independence

So, Hong Kong is a big city in China. But before, it used to belong to a different country called Britain. Then, in 1997, Britain gave Hong Kong back to China. But when China got it back, they made a special agreement with Hong Kong called "One Country, Two Systems". It means that Hong Kong could keep some of its own rules and freedoms, like having its own government and using a different money.

Now, some people in Hong Kong think that they should be completely separate from China and be their own country, just like Britain or the United States. They call it "Hong Kong Independence". This is a big issue because it would mean changing the special agreement that China made with Hong Kong. Some people think this is a good idea because they want to be able to make their own choices and have more control over their own future. Other people think it's not a good idea because they want to keep the special agreement and have both China and Hong Kong work together. So, it's a complicated issue and lots of people have different opinions about it.
