Hostage diplomacy

Hostage diplomacy is when a country takes hostages from another country as a way of getting them to do something they want. For example, if one country wants another country to stop doing something they don't like, they might take some of their citizens hostage. The other country will then have to decide if they want to do what the first country wants in order to get their citizens back.
