Hot spring

Do you know when you take a bath and the water is very warm and nice? Well, imagine a really big bathtub, so big you can swim in it! That is called a hot spring.

Some places on the earth have really hot rocks under the ground. When rainwater or snow melt gets into the ground, it goes down really deep and interacts with those hot rocks. This water heats up and turns into steam.

The steam rises up and makes the ground warm. Sometimes, the steam even pushes up through cracks in the ground, and water from underground sources comes up with it. When this hot water comes up to the surface, it creates a hot spring.

The water in hot springs can be very hot and even burn you, so people should be careful when they visit them. But some hot springs have been turned into places where people can take a hot bath, relax and get some relief for their muscles and bones.

Hot springs can be found all over the world and they are often in beautiful places with amazing views of nature.
