Howieson's Poort Shelter

Howieson's Poort Shelter is like an ancient house that people used to live in a long, long time ago. It was made by our ancestors who lived in a place called South Africa thousands of years ago. The shelter is a rock cave that is like a big hole in the side of a mountain.

Inside the shelter, there are lots of rooms made of rocks where people would sleep and make important things like fire, tools, and art. They would also cook their food and eat it in the shelter.

The shelter was a safe place for our ancestors to live because it protected them from wild animals and bad weather. Our ancestors lived in the shelter for a very long time before they started to build their own houses outside of the shelter.

Today, people study Howieson's Poort Shelter to learn about our ancestors and how they lived a long time ago. They've found evidence that people made many important discoveries inside the shelter like inventing new tools, making jewelry, and creating art. So, it's like a special place that can teach us about our history!
