Hugh Chisholm was a really smart man who lived a long time ago, almost 100 years ago! He was the editor of a really special book called the "Encyclopedia Britannica". This book was like a big dictionary that had answers to almost every question you could think of!
Hugh worked really hard to make this book as helpful as possible, but it was a very big job. He had to write a lot of articles himself, but he also had to find other very smart people to help him write about different topics.
Hugh was also in charge of making sure that the book looked good, with lots of pictures and maps to help you understand things better. That way, if someone wanted to learn about something, they could just open up the book and find all the information they needed right there!
Thanks to Hugh, the Encyclopedia Britannica became really famous and lots of people used it to learn new things. Even though it has been over 100 years since he worked on it, people still use the Encyclopedia Britannica today!
