Hughes Mining Barge

Okay buddy, so the Hughes Mining Barge is a big boat built by a man named Howard Hughes. It was made to help dig for useful things in the ocean called minerals. But instead of just floating around like a regular boat, it stays in one spot by using four big legs that go all the way to the ocean floor.

Once it's in position, it uses something called a suction pipe to suck up the ocean floor and bring it up to the boat. Then, machines on the boat sift through it all to find the valuable minerals.

It was a really clever invention at the time, but the Hughes Mining Barge isn't used anymore because there are other, better ways to mine for minerals now. Plus, it's a pretty expensive thing to build and operate.
