ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Human accelerated regions

So there are parts in our DNA (that's like an instruction manual for our bodies) that have changed more quickly than other parts. These are called "human accelerated regions."

Think of it like a puzzle - some pieces of the puzzle have changed more than others, and those pieces are the human accelerated regions. Scientists are really interested in studying these regions because they think they might be important in making humans different from other animals.

It's kind of like how different Lego sets have different pieces - some are unique and only used in that set, while others are used in lots of sets. The human accelerated regions are like the unique Lego pieces that make us different from other animals!
