ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hunger in the United States

Okay kiddo, in the United States there are people who don't have enough food to eat. Sometimes their parents don't have enough money to buy them food or they don't have a place to store it. This is called hunger.

Sometimes there are people who don't have a lot of food choices and end up eating unhealthy things like junk food instead of healthy fruits and vegetables. This can make them feel bad and sick sometimes.

There are some groups of people who are more likely to experience hunger than others. For example, sometimes people who are really old or really young, people who live in rural areas, or people who have disabilities can have a harder time getting enough food.

But there are people and organizations out there who work hard to make sure everyone has enough to eat. Places like food banks and soup kitchens provide meals for people who need them. Some schools have programs that give students free lunch or breakfast because they know that having a full belly can help them learn better.

So it's important to remember that while there are still people who experience hunger, there are also people trying to help and make sure everyone has enough to eat.
