ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hussites

Hussites were a group of people who lived a long time ago in a place called Bohemia (which is now part of the Czech Republic). They believed that everyone should be able to read and understand the Bible for themselves, instead of just listening to what the Church leaders told them. This was called being "literate" and "vernacular" which meant understanding things in your own language.

The Church didn't like this idea because they thought only trained priests should be able to read and explain the Bible. So, the Church leaders tried to stop the Hussites and even excommunicated them. This means they weren't allowed to be part of the Church anymore.

The Hussites were upset about this, and some of them started to rebel because they wanted to be able to practice their own beliefs. They fought against the church and even had some battles. They were very good at fighting and had a lot of strategies that helped them win.

Eventually, the Church leaders and the Hussites made a deal that allowed the Hussites to have some of their own beliefs without being excommunicated. This led to more people being able to read the Bible for themselves and understand it in their own language, which was a big change in the Church.

So, in a nutshell, Hussites were a group of people who fought for their right to read and understand the Bible in their own language, and they eventually made a deal that allowed them to practice their own beliefs without being excommunicated from the Church.
