ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hutch (furniture)

A hutch is basically a piece of furniture that sits on top of another piece of furniture, like a dresser or a desk. It's kind of like a big box with doors and shelves inside of it, that you can use to store things like dishes or books.

Imagine you have a big dresser in your room, with lots of drawers and a surface on top. Now imagine stacking another piece of furniture on top of it, like a really tall cabinet or bookshelf. This is kind of what a hutch looks like - it's a tall, rectangular box that sits on top of a piece of furniture, adding extra storage and display space.

Usually, a hutch will have doors or glass panels on the front, which you can open to access the shelves inside. Some hutches also have drawers or cabinets on the bottom part of the piece of furniture it's sitting on.

People often use hutches in their dining rooms or kitchens to store fancy dishes or glassware, but they can also be used in home offices or living rooms to store books or display decorative items.
