Hypoprolactinemia

Hypoprolactinemia is when your body doesn't make enough of a certain type of hormone called prolactin. Imagine your body is a factory that makes different types of hormones, like prolactin is like a worker whose job is to make milk for babies. When you don't have enough workers like prolactin in the factory, it can't make enough milk for the baby.

This is important because prolactin plays a big role in making sure that moms can produce milk for their babies. So, if someone has hypoprolactinemia, it can be hard for them to breastfeed their baby, or they might not be able to produce milk at all.

There can be a few different reasons why someone might have hypoprolactinemia. Sometimes, it can be because something is wrong with the "factory" itself (like a problem with the pituitary gland in your brain that makes hormones). Other times, it might be because someone is taking certain medications that can affect how their body makes prolactin.

Doctors can do tests to see if someone has hypoprolactinemia, and there are treatments available to help raise their prolactin levels if needed.
