Hypsometer

Imagine you have a special tool that can help you measure how tall a tree is! That tool is called a hypsometer.

When you use a hypsometer, you first have to find a spot directly in front of the tree. Then, you hold up the hypsometer and look through it to find the top of the tree.

The hypsometer works by using special angles and calculations to measure the distance from your eyes to the top of the tree. Once it knows that distance, it can guess how tall the tree is!

Scientists and people who work with trees use hypsometers all the time to figure out how tall a tree is without having to climb all the way to the top. It's a really handy tool!
