ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hysteresis

Hysteresis is like a memory for something. For example, let's say you have a light switch in your house. When you flip the switch up, the light comes on. Then, even when you flip the switch down, the light stays on. In this example, the switch is displaying hysteresis. That means that once you switched the light on, it remembers that you did it and will stay on until you switch it off.
