ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

ISO 3166-2:IE

Okay kiddo, do you know what a country is? It’s a big area of land where people live and have their own government. Ireland is one of these countries, just like the United States and Canada.

Now, sometimes we need to talk specifically about different parts of a country, like states in America or provinces in Canada. Well, Ireland has these too! They are called counties.

Iso 3166-2 is a system that helps us talk about these counties. It’s like a secret code that people who work with countries use. The “3166” part just means it’s the 3rd standard (that’s another way to say “rule”) for countries and the “2” means it’s specifically for talking about smaller areas of a country.

And the “IE” part at the end stands for Ireland, just like how “US” stands for United States. If you put it all together, “iso 3166-2:ie” means the set of rules we use to talk about the different counties in Ireland.

Hope that helps, kiddo!
