ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

ISO/IEC 11179

ISO/IEC 11179 is a standard that provides guidelines for naming and organizing data. It categorizes data into five types called "data elements". These data elements are like boxes or containers that hold information. For example, if you wanted to keep a list of people's birthdays, you would make a data element called "Birthdate" and put all the birthdays in there. This standard helps people organize data by creating categories and giving them names so everyone knows what is in each container. It also makes sure that the same information is presented in the same way and that the same language is used for each data element.
